I&#8217;m busy planning my trip to a few different areas in southern China.<\/div>\n<p>My first stop will be Lijiang \u4e3d\u6c5f in Yunnan \u4e91\u5357 province.\u00a0 Lijiang is a small touristy town in the northwest corner of Yunnan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_836\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovyunnan.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-836\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-836\" title=\"pprovyunnan\" src=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovyunnan.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovyunnan.png 350w, https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovyunnan-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-836\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yunnan \u4e91\u5357 Province - bordered by Tibet (NW), Myanmar (W), and Laos and Vietnam (S)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The main purpose of this part of my trip is to see and hike Tiger Leaping Gorge \u864e\u8df3\u5ce1\u3002 It claims to be the deepest river gorge in the world.\u00a0 I&#8217;m planning to spend 2-3 days hiking in the gorge and photographing the magnificent scenery.\u00a0 Below are some pictures I found online. I plan to take the high road. If I&#39;m going to make the trip all the way down there I&#39;m going to make it worthwhile. There are many other things to do there and I&#8217;m looking forward to getting lost in\u00a0the area.\u00a0 (Don&#8217;t worry, Mom, I don&#8217;t actually mean &#8220;lost&#8221;)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_845\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovguangxi.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-845\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-845\" title=\"pprovguangxi\" src=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovguangxi.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovguangxi.png 350w, https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/pprovguangxi-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-845\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guangxi \u5e7f\u897f Province-bordered by Vietnam (SW)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After my time in Yunnan Province,\u00a0I will take a train from Kunming \u6606\u660e (also in Yunnan) to Guilin \u6842\u6797 in\u00a0Guangxi\u00a0\u5e7f\u897f Province.\u00a0 Guilin is a really toursity town, so I only plan to stay there\u00a0long enough to\u00a0either get a bus ticket to Yangshuo \u9633\u6714 or take the boat tour down the Li River. I&#8217;ll have plenty of time to make that decision later.\u00a0 Yangshuo\/Guilin areas are\u00a0known for their Karst Topography.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;m very excited to visit this part of the world.\u00a0 Below is a photo from my hostel in Xingping \u6027\u5e73 village, near Yangshuo.\u00a0\u00a0 (Interesting side note:\u00a0 as I was doing some &#8220;research&#8221; for my trip&#8211;wikipedia saves the day again&#8211;I discovered that Yangshuo is a &#8216;sister city&#8217; to Rapid City, SD.\u00a0 Now I&#8217;m even more excited!)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_842\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/yangshuo-hostel.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-842\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-842\" title=\"yangshuo hostel\" src=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/yangshuo-hostel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/yangshuo-hostel.jpg 500w, https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/yangshuo-hostel-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-842\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yes, that is a random, unknown person in the photo. It was the best one I could find. <\/p><\/div>\n<p>After a couple days of hiking\/biking\/photographing the area of Yangshuo, I will take the bus (three different buses, actually) to the small village of Dazhai, which is about 4 hours north of Yangshuo.\u00a0 Near Dazhai there are more (although smaller) mountains.\u00a0 This part of the country is best known for its rice farming.\u00a0 I will be staying at a hostel in the mountains surrounded by rice terraces.\u00a0 It is called &#8220;Dragon&#8217;s Backbone Rice Terraces&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_846\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Rice-Terraces-3.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-846\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-846\" title=\"Rice Terraces 3\" src=\"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Rice-Terraces-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-846\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is a photo from the hostel website.
