{"id":684,"date":"2010-06-19T22:58:21","date_gmt":"2010-06-19T14:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/?p=684"},"modified":"2010-06-20T05:47:57","modified_gmt":"2010-06-19T21:47:57","slug":"you-know-youve-been-in-china-too-long-when","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amber.schlomer.net\/?p=684","title":{"rendered":"You Know You&#8217;ve Been in China Too Long When&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As my first year in China comes to a close I wanted to share with you some of the ridiculousness that has become everyday life for those of us living here.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sorry if most of these don&#8217;t make sense.\u00a0 Many of them would not have meant anything to me before I lived here.\u00a0 (Then again&#8211;the blog isn&#8217;t only for you! \ud83d\ude09 ) Some of them are funny by themselves, but some are funny just because they are so true!\u00a0 I cannot claim the whole\u00a0list as my own.<\/p>\n<p>You know you&#8217;ve been in China too long when&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you think that a $7 shirt is a rip off. (or you find yourself bargaining over 75 cents)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you think that walking backwards in the park listening to a transistor radio\u00a0(or clapping your hands) is good exercise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you consider it a challenge to see if you can get on the subway before anyone gets off. (Or the elevator. Or anywhere, really.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you find western toilets uncomfortable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you honk your horn at people because they are in your way as you drive down the sidewalk. \ud83d\ude42 (What? Don&#8217;t you?)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you have no sense of traffic rules.\u00a0 (I wonder how I&#8217;ll drive in the states&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you start cutting off large vehicles on your bicycle. (Buses come to mind&#8230;.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;forks feel funny. (Hehehe)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you can&#8217;t say a number without using the appropriate hand sign. \ud83d\ude42 (I love this one because I do it and don&#8217;t think about it!)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you stop at the top or bottom of an escalator (or stairs) to plan your day. (People also do this when exiting the subway scanning &#8216;booth.&#8217;)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you have an uncontrollable urge to follow people carrying small flags!<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you think that pushing the elevator button over and over again will make it go faster. (It does. I&#8217;ve tried.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;you prefer hot water in the summer.
